Finding an elegant venue that's affordable is not easy! But here are some things to consider when choosing a venue:
1. Day of the week: Many venues up-charge for Fridays and Saturdays. Consider holding your wedding on a Thursday or Sunday. 2. Season: Some venues have prices that are dependent on the season. If that is the case for your venue, try choosing an out of season date. In season dates typically include May through September (and some holidays). 3. All inclusive space or separate spaces: Decide whether you want both your ceremony and reception in the same venue location or if you want to rent two different spaces. In my experience, finding a venue that you can host both your ceremony and reception tends to be more inexpensive. 4. In House Catering vs. Out of Venue Catering: Many popular wedding venues have their own catering services. The benefit of using in house catering is that there is generally no extra charge for table linens, plates, tables, etc. and they often have a bar license, so you don't have to take care of any of that. And you only need a contract with one location instead of two which can be a hassle if anyone involved isn't well organized. 5. Size of the event: If you're hosting an event with less than 50 people, you can often find smaller rooms or lounge areas with beautiful views that cost less simply because you cannot host large parties. Larger groups can find inexpensive banquet halls or outdoor spaces. Consider these factors with your fiancee and decide what is most important to both of you. Then let the research begin! Hotels and convention spaces are often a good place to start looking if you are going for in house catering with a small or large group.

We're engaged!! Time to enjoy our engagement, but also time to get planning! I like to consider myself a planner, budgeter, and couponer. All three of these experiences gives me a rush, so I can't wait to start.
Since we are looking to purchase our first home soon, we have set our budget to about $12,000. I have already put together some initial money saving plans. I'll share my tips and tricks with you along the way. |
